George Niles Warren, 61, of Springfield died at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Medical Center. He was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Saffordsville, Kan., the son of William Turner and Laura Niles Warren. He married Glenda Sue Grant in 1957 in Springfield.
Mr. Warren served as an Army captain during the Korean War. A graduate of the University of Kansas, he was formerly a supervisor of production control at Caterpillar Tractor Co. He later was secretary-treasurer, president and director of Mel-O-Cream Secret Formula Donuts, Inc. He had been secretary-treasurer and director of Mel-O-Cream Donuts International, Inc., since 1967. He was elected to the board of directors of Magna Bank of Central Illinois, N.A. He was vice chairman of Manufacturers Council/Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, trustee and elder. Mr. Warren was a member of Island Bay Yacht Club, Springfield Art Association, Illinois State Museum Association, Springfield Area Arts Council, American Legion, Sigma Nu, Masonic Lodge, Springfield Consistory and Ansar Temple. Surviving are his wife, Glenda G.; two sons; two daughters; three grandchildren; stepmother, Laura G. Warren of Emporia) Kan.; one brother, William Turner Warren of Los Angeles, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Hobart H. Heistand officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
