2023 Summer Mission Trip

Trip: Sunday, June 24 - Saturday, July 1, 2023
​Twenty youth and eight adults spent the week working together to rebuild following the devastating tornadoes in January. Additionally, the group visited the 16th Street Baptist Church, Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, the Equal Justice Museum in Montgomery, and cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. Mission Trip Participants have read and discussed Bryan Stevenson’s book Just Mercy in preparation for their sojourn together. Attorney Stevenson was instrumental in the founding of The Equal Justice Museum in Montgomery. 

The group led worship on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

Youth participants include: Seniors: Braden Barton, Emily Brower, Aerwyna Eastvold, Louisa Eldridge, Luke Elston, Caroline Haynor, Sidney Miller, Bryce Pound, Matthew Scott, Juniors: Kristianna Eastvold, Will Hovey, Sam  Simonson. Freshmen: Carter Magalis, Eighth Graders: Sam Batterman, Maria DeJong, Abigail Eldridge, Liam Kiszely, Maria Lafrenz, James Maeda, Macklin Metzger Leaders are: Mary Ray (Interim Director for Youth), Tad Allen, Cathy Brower, Susan Day, Kyle Duffy, Dave Leonatti, Nichole Magalis, and Kevin Simonson.

Things to pack for a successful mission trip:

Essentials:
  •   H2O bottles & hydrating gear
  •   Hat
  •   Sunscreen
  •   Twin sheets & blankets OR       
      sleeping bag
  •   Pillows
  •   Towels (2 or 3)
  •   Money (~$100)
Other helpful things:
  • Pack light as possible (bring essentials only)
  • Bring work shoes/boots & comfortable shoes
  • Gloves
  • Snacks to share
  • Things to do during the long journey
    • Books / journals / crafts
  • Wristwatch
  • Wireless Power Tools if you have them
