Lionel Shelborn Stirrett, 82, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Lionel was born on August 11, 1939, in Mattoon, IL to Virgil Shelborn and Marjorie Irene (Hensley) Stirrett. He married Rebecca Joan Kepley on June 14, 1964, in Mattoon.

Lionel graduated from Windsor High School and received his B.S. in agriculture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was commissioned into the United States Army through the University of Illinois ROTC program and served as a First Lieutenant in Germany from 1962-1964. Lionel was a Ciba-Geigy agricultural chemical sales representative from 1964 until his retirement in 1991. During retirement, Lionel was an agricultural land realtor and a member of the Sangamon-Menard Extension Council.

He was an elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church and worked to establish the church's columbarium. Lionel enjoyed boating, gardening, traveling, cars, photography, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Stirrett of Springfield; daughter Cynthia Lynn (Oda IV "Todd") Drake of Algonquin, IL; son Douglas Shelborn (Dr. Laura Winstead) Stirrett of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren Ashley, Lindsay, and Oda V "Jack" Drake and Ainsley and Connor Stirrett; brother, Dwane (Connie) Stirrett of Clinton, IL; sister-in-law, Dorothy Stirrett of Dieterich, IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Stirrett.

The family will host a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 S. Walnut St., Springfield, Illinois following a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. with family present. A private inurnment ceremony will be held in the Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. Cremation was provided by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
