Cheryl L. Pyle 1948 - 2017
Springfield, IL—Cheryl L. Pyle, 69, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at home after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer.
Cheryl was born April 23, 1948 in Granite City, IL to Harry W. and Doris N. (Draper) Smith. She married Robert E. Pyle in Hartford, IL on August 17, 1968. Together they had three children, Tracy (Joe) Milbrandt, Springfield; Courtney (Brian) Yamada, Bloomington; and Melissa (Jason) Hirsbrunner, Mahomet. Cheryl's world revolved around her children and grandchildren; Joey, Logan, Ryan, Luke, Connor, Nathan, and Adilynn. She is survived by her husband; children; brother, Harry D. Smith of Mulberry, Arkansas; and sister, Sandra S. Jenkins of Granite City, IL. Also surviving are four nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cheryl earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from SIUE, and worked as a second-grade teacher prior to having children. She returned to teaching and furthered her education earning a master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Western Illinois University. She ended her career working as a Literacy Coach for School District 186. Throughout the years, Cheryl had been involved in many organizations, including DAR and P.E.O. Chapter HU.
Cheryl had a passion for reading and education, and had a great sense of style. Anyone who had been to her home knew what a talented decorator she was. She encouraged the educational endeavors of her daughters, and she served as a mentor to those with whom she worked. Cheryl loved attending the many sporting events, concerts and school activities of her grandchildren.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 South Walnut St., Springfield with Rev. Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
