SPRINGFIELD - Julia Anne Sutton Noonan of Springfield, died on Sunday, August 14, 2011. The daughter of Robert Thoma Sutton and Mary Jane White Sutton, Julia was born in Springfield on December 13, 1931. She attended Lindenwood College (now University) in St. Charles, MO and the University of Colorado in Boulder. After college, she worked for Sutton's, her family's furniture and music business at 7th and Adams. Julia married Patrick Arthur Noonan on September 26, 1953.
A descendent of the first permanent settler of Sangamon County, Julia was devoted to the Springfield community and active in numerous civic organizations. She was a member and past president of Progress Circle of Kings Daughters; member and past president EQ P.E.O. Sisterhood; member D.I.A., Attention Home for Youth; member and past president WUIS advisory board (then known as WSSR); fundraiser for Junior League Follies; member and past president Sunnyside Circle; a 30 year member of Westminster Choir; past member of the Springfield Choral Society, Illinois Symphony Guild, Springfield Art Association, Memorial Medical Center Friends Board, and Mayor's Springfield Tree Commission. Julia loved music, travels around Britain, and playing mahjong and bridge with her friends. She was a tireless gardener, perfect grandmother, avid reader, and sometime knitter.
Julia is survived by her husband Patrick; sons, Patrick Sutton Noonan (Jo), Christopher Hay Noonan (Michelle), Peter Todd Noonan (Megan), and Thomas Andrew Noonan (Kim); fourteen grandchildren, Paul, Will, Trevor, Amanda, Christopher, Bryce, Sophia, Riley Anne, Camden, Jackson, Drake, Hanna, Ridgely, and Davis; sister, Victoria Sutton Overaker McKinley (Ken) of Savannah, Georgia; six nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Geoffrey Sutton in 2007 and nephew, Scott Overaker McKinley in 1998.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 South Walnut St. Springfield, IL with Rev. Tasha Blackburn officiating. Inurnment and reception immediately following at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
