Phyllis Brown Collins was born June 26, 1929 in Christopher, IL the daughter of Charles H. and Irene (Roberts) Brown who preceded her in death.
Phyllis graduated from Christopher Community High School, Christian college in Columbia, MO and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Upon her graduation, she taught in the Springfield School District 186 and retired from there.
Active in Volunteer Work, she was a Group Lady at Memorial Medical Center, volunteered at the Jacksonville State Hospital and the Mary Bryant Home. She was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, was a member of the B.F. chapter of P.E.O. Sisterhood, WM Penny chapter of D.A.R., Jr. League of Springfield, A Sustaining Member of Margaret Garfield circle of Kings Daughters and a member of the Panhellenic society of Sorority Members.
Phyllis loved to travel, read and was an avid Bridge player. She belonged to the Bridge Club of Springfield where she had attained the rank of Gold Life Master.
She is survived by her children; Stephen (Sharon) Collins of Murphysboro, IL and Kathleen (Robert) Hernandez of Alpharetta, GA, her grandchildren; Rachel (Austin) Williams of John’s Creek, GA, Hannah (Thomas) Mastrototaro, of Roswell, GA and Katherine Hernandez of Alpharetta, GA, and her niece, Cinda (Frank) Edwards of Springfield.
Cremation Rites were be accorded by the Bisch Crematory.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Westminster Presbyterian Church 533 S. Walnut St. Springfield, IL 62704 Rev. Dr. Blyth Denham Kieffer officiating. inurnment in the columbarium of Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Westminster Presbyterian Church 533 S. Walnut St. Springfield, IL 62704
