SPRINGFIELD - Gail Benjamin, 74, of Springfield passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Capitol Care Center.
Gail was born on July 28, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Grant and Elizabeth Myers Benjamin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her stepmother, Ruth West Benjamin.
She was a graduate of Northwestern University, Columbia University and Washington University. She was a registered nurse and worked in nursing education and administration and recruiting at the University of Missouri, University of Michigan and Lincoln Land Community College. She was a United Presbyterian missionary teaching nursing in Tabriz, Iran.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Illinois Nurses Association and American Nurses Association.
She is survived by her sister, Betsy Benjamin Ruklick of Springfield; three nephews, Grant Ruklick of Chicago, Charles (wife, Marilyn) Ruklick of Northbrook and John Ruklick of Wisconsin; and two great-nieces, Grace and Lily Ruklick.
An outdoor commital service will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mark Merrill officiating.
Memorials may be made to Special Olympics, Illinois Humane Society or the Animal Protective League.
