Misusing Scripture: A Pattern of Oppression

This course will provide an overview of the way Scripture has been used through the centuries to justify oppression based on Jack Rogers’s book Jesus, the Bible and Homosexuality. Led by Dr. Peter Kieffer and the Rev. Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer

We welcome the Rev. Dr. Clint McCann, Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO and author of several books on the Psalms. He will highlight the importance of justice and peace within the Psalms.
The Early Church Councils

This course will explore the first seven ecumenical church councils which were held between 325 and 787 CE and discuss the theological issues that spurred the councils as well as the major personalities who spoke at them. Led by Dr. Aaron Berkowitz
Civil Rights and 20th Century Music

During the 20th century, emerging technologies permitted musicians Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley to develop new genres of Jazz, Rock and Reggae that would transform the music industry and lead the march of the civil rights movement. Led by Dr. Peter Kieffer
Sowing Tears, Reaping Joy: The Bible and Brahms' Requiem

This course will provide a venue to hear Johannes Brahms’ Requiem and to explore the tenderness and passion of grief and hope within the Bible. Led by Dale Rogers and Lyle VanDeventer.
Liturgical Art in the Church

This course will explore liturgical art in a variety of media and the ways art creates a contemplative and prayerful environment for the worship of God. We will conclude with a visit to the Lenten art display and discuss the works of art. Led by Dr. Scott Day.
