Music at Westminster

The Westminster Choir Program

Music at Westminster exists to lead people in the worship of God, to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to provide for the musical training and Christian formation of children and adults, and to enrich the cultural life of the community.

Westminster's music program led by Dale T. Rogers includes the congregation, the Westminster Choir, the Walnuts, Westminster Choristers, Children's Choir, Handbell Choir and Church Mice. The church music program also provides music to enrich the special services in the liturgical seasons.

The Westminster Choir is comprised of adults who have a musical gift of singing and desire to use that gift in worship leadership. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. The Westminster choir sings at the 10:00 a.m. service from September through May as well as in seasonal concerts. Summer music is provided by soloists and guest musicians.

The Walnuts is a quartet of Westminster members which performs a wide variety of 4-part harmony music accompanied by music director, Dale Rogers.

Westminster Choristers is made up of singers in 3rd-6th grades and rehearses on Wednesdays at 4:30-5:30 p.m. This choir sings each month on the third Sunday as well as being part of special musical presentations. In addition to singing in 10:00 worship, Choristers perform a musical every spring.

Children's Choir meets on Tuesdays at 4:45 p.m. Its members are in K-2nd grade. They sing in the Advent Celebration and several times at the 10:00 a.m. service.

Handbell Choir members gather in the bell loft in the front of the sanctuary to rehearse following the service at 11:15 a.m on the second through fourth Sundays of the month. Handbell choir members of any age are welcome. Ringers with or without experience are encouraged to join.

Church Mice provides a first musical experience for infants through age 4 and their parents. Our youngest members and their parents meet on Saturday mornings at 11:00 a.m. It is a totally interactive experience with songs, games and activities to introduce pre-schoolers to the world of music.
Westminster's four-manual, six division organ was built by Robert G. Dial Organbuilders in 2002.  Located in the east gallery, the Great, Swell, Choir and Pedal divisions are augmented by the Ruckpositiv division of the previous Schlicker organ and by a Chancel division housed behind the facade of the original Hook and Hastings organ.
New members are always welcome in Westminster's music program. For information about the Westminster Choirs, please contact the church office 217-522-4415.
