Worship at Westminster Presbyterian Church is the heart of its life. Westminster has three services of worship every weekend. A service that blends contemporary and traditional forms meets on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. in our Parish Hall. This service encourages casual dress and includes the weekly celebration of the Sacrament of the Lords Supper. Our 8:30 a.m. service on Sundays follows a more traditional format in an informal atmosphere. Our Sunday 10:00 a.m. service has a traditional yet lively liturgical style that is well suited to our neo-gothic sanctuary. Music for the 10:00 a.m. service is led by adult and children’s choirs and Westminster’s fine pipe organ. Young children participate in the first 15 minutes of this service and then leave for Sunday School following the children’s sermon.
Westminster follows a Reformed order of worship with central attention given to the reading and preaching of the Word. The service reflects three emphases: preparing for the Word, listening to the Word, and responding to the Word.
The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is usually celebrated on the second Sunday of the month and on a weekly basis in the Saturday Service. All who are baptized and affirm the Lordship of Christ are welcome to participate in the sacrament. The elements are served to the congregation in the pews at the Sunday 10:00 a.m. service. At 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and at the Saturday 5:30 p.m. service communion is served by intinction, and worshippers come forward to receive the elements from clergy and elders.
