Educational Programs & Events for Spiritual Growth

A wide range of adult educational programs and events are presented at Westminster Presbyterian Church over the course of the year. Programs are offered in a variety of formats and time frames to meet the needs and time constraints of today’s Christians, but the foundation for spiritual growth and education remains constant -- The Bible.

Programs are designed to offer a diverse membership options for increasing their understanding of the Bible and for developing a better articulation of personal faith, broadening the awareness of Christian responsibility in the world and challenging discipleship.

Whether you’re looking to grow your spirituality or looking to share your faith in fellowship in a supportive and caring environment, you’re invited to check out the Adult Education Programs at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Join us for lively discussions on topics such as worship and the sacraments, stewardship and mission interpretation, personal growth and support, and social concern which are presented to stimulate the explorations of feelings, values, appreciations and Spiritual Growth.

Small Bible Study Groups are forming all the time at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Groups meet either weekly or monthly. These insightful and thought provocative study groups provide an opportunity to gain a new view into scripture through the study of the bible and to discuss issues of faith.

  • Thursday Adult Bible Study meets the 2nd Thursday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. except during the summer when the meeting times vary. This is led by Rev. Merrill.
  • Thursday Evening Adult Bible Study meets every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. This is led by the Revs. Merrill and Blackburn.

Occasionally, lectures are given following the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Worship Service. These 3rd Hour study sessions are coordinated throughout the year and often presented as a series. A variety of topics are selected which often have a particular relevance to world events and which conflicts which challenge our faith.

Bay Sunday, traditionally in the Fall, offers special guest speakers who deliver highly motivational and inspirational presentations on a series of Christian topics. Bay Sunday is a yearly endowed lectureship at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

A group of lectures on various themes is offered at Westminster Presbyterian Church to mark the beginning of the Christian church year.

A Fall Study Series, offered by Dr. Lee and based on his Reformation research trips, are offered on Monday evenings in October.

Advent starts on the Sunday nearest St. Andrew's Day (November 30), and continues until Christmas Eve (December 24). The Advent Series, which normally begins and concludes before the season of Advent, has included Handel’s Messiah and African-American spirituals.

A Lenten Lecture Series often deals with the spiritual discipline and renewal that is called upon in preparation for Easter and traditionally begins the Monday before Ash Wednesday. Topics covered have included Handel’s Messiah, and the relationship of the Christian faith to contemporary literature (Tolkien, Harry Potter Series, the Da Vinci Code).
