2017 Stewardship Campaign: More Than Enough
"And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance,
so that by always having enough of everything,
you may share abundantly in every work." II Corinthians 9:8
More Than Enough is this year’s theme based on II Corinthians 9:6-9. As we consider our financial commitment for 2017, it is good to affirm the God who provides each of us with more than enough and who calls us to live lives of gratitude and generosity.
Too often we are dissatisfied with our place in creation. Cultural messages play into our dissatisfaction, encouraging us to believe that “enough” is just out of reach, and that we need to keep striving for it. As people of faith, our cups are neither half empty nor half full, they are overflowing with the love and mercy of the God in whom we live and move and have our being.
As I approach my third anniversary as your pastor and head of staff, I am humbled by the gifts shared so generously within this community of faith and the openness to what God is doing in our midst. We continue to discover more than enough grace, creativity and collaboration in the sacred work we have been called to do together.
I join the Stewardship Committee in inviting you to prayerfully consider your 2017 pledge. Give out of the generosity you have received from the One who bends down to lift infants, whose understanding is unsearchable, who renews the strength of those who wait, and who brings life out of death. Give because you have enough! Give because you want to give and because you can!
Grace and Peace,
The Rev. Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer
Pastor and Head of Staff
What is Stewardship?
Financial Stewardship is an important component of a balanced spiritual life. Returning to God from that which God has given to us is a tangible way to express our faith.
What is a Stewardship Pledge?
Each year, members of Westminster Presbyterian Church are asked to make a stewardship pledge for the upcoming calendar year. A member's pledge is a one-year financial commitment to support the ministry within our congregation, to the Springfield community and to the world. A pledge made in connection with the current stewardship drive is to be paid by December 31, 2017.
What is an Appropriate Pledge Amount?
The amount of each member's stewardship pledge is a personal, spiritual decision. The biblical concept of tithing (contributing 10% of one's income to the church and other worthy organizations) is a standard to prayerfully consider. Some members may be able to equal or exceed the tithing level. Other members will pledge at a lower level. We have included the above giving percentage chart as a guideline for those who would like to move toward this goal. All pledge contributions, regardless of the amount, are gratefully received as an expression of a member's commitment.
Why are Pledges Important?
Pledges are essential to Westminster's planning process. Each year, committees submit their goals and the estimated cost to achieve them. The Session adopts a tentative budget. Once members' 2017 pledges are received, the Session will finalize the budget.
How Many Households Give?
For 2016, we received 275 pledges for a total of $818,678. Currently, there are 381 households contributing financially to support Westminster's ministry. The table below shows how many of those households contribute at each of the respective levels.
The 381 households that are currently providing the financial support are 49% of the 783 total households on Westminster's rolls.
How are Pledges Paid?
Members fulfill their pledge in the manner that best meets their circumstance. One may give weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually via cash, checks, automatic bank withdrawal or by credit card. Pledges may also be paid with securities. Should a member's circumstances change; the pledge can be increased or decreased.
How are Pledges Submitted and What is the Time Frame?
Members are asked to complete and return their pledge cards in a sealed envelope to the church by mail or by placing them in the offering plate during worship no later than Dedication Sunday, October 30. Members may also pledge by clicking here.
